Shetland Sheep Dog

Shetland Sheep Dogs, or “Shelties,” are small to medium herding dogs celebrated for their lush double coats, graceful movement, and keen intelligence. Developed on Scotland’s Shetland Islands, they were bred to manage sheep and goats in harsh climates—skills they still showcase today with agile responsiveness and an unwavering work ethic. Their sable-and-white, black-and-white, or blue-merle coats frame alert, almond-shaped eyes that constantly scan their surroundings, making them excellent watchdogs.

Beyond their herding roots, Shelties are affectionate, loyal companions who thrive on close family bonds and mental challenges. They excel in canine sports like agility, obedience, and herding trials, enjoying tasks that engage both body and mind. While their abundant coat requires weekly brushing and seasonal de-shedding, Shelties repay the effort with gentle companionship, playful energy, and a remarkable eagerness to learn.
