The droopy eyed Basset hound has been a favorite model for many cartoon dog characters. They may look sad but are actually very keen hunters with a highly developed sense of smell. They were bred with short legs so they could better hunt by scent, especially rabbits.
Due to their friendly nature, Bassets make excellent pets, also around children. Despite their long ears though, they often “forget” their training when going on a walk, so it’s important to keep them on a leash.
