The Airedale Terrier originates in Airedale, a geographic area in Yorkshire, England. It used to be called the “King of Terriers” before the creation of the even larger Black Russian Terrier. It was bred originally to hunt otters in and around the valleys of the River Aire which runs through Airedale. In England this breed has also been used as a police dog.
The Airedale is also a reliable and protective family pet. They are exceedingly loyal, smart and strong dogs. And since they are very energetic they need training and plenty of exercise.
